Preying Hands


Avant-garde-theater-director-turned-exploitation-filmmaker Andy Milligan (The Ghastly Ones, The Rats Are Coming! The Werewolves Are Here!) waxes Shakesphearian with this tale of a young Romeo and Juliet type couple duped into helping a Richard III-like prison chaplain who kills prisoners (in nasty…medieval nasty ways) and sells their bodies to medical schools. Of the Milligan films I’ve seen so far, I think this one works best, since it’s basically a filmed play…Andy didn’t know jack about filmmaking and had to figure stuff out and cobble stuff together as he went along….with obviously varying results…Oh, and he actually laid off of  his trademark “swirly camera” technique on this one, so you won’t have to worry about vertigo…then again, some people pay good money for that sensation…
