We’ve Got B.I.G. Trouble

Where’s Dr. Doolitle when you need him? In Food Of  The Gods (very loosely based on the H.G. Wells classic) footballer Morgan (Marjoe Gortner, Starcrash, Jungle Warriors) is out for a little R&R, but it’s hard to chillax when your sleepy little vacation spot is overrun by wasps the size of model airplanes and rats the size of St. Bernards. They’ve been eating some mysterious goop that comes straight out of the ground. Religious zealot Mrs. Skinner (Ida Lupino) feeds it to her farm animals, believing it to be a gift from the Lord. (If anyone should know how to handle fanatics, it’s Marjoe. He was a revival tent grifter when he was a kid.)  Ralph Meeker thinks the whole thing is actually a good idea…if he can find a way to profit from it. Director Bert I Gordon is famous for giant-sized sci-fi movies like this…The Amazing Colossal Man, Village Of  The Giants, Beginning Of The End… and the hilariously obvious FX used in them…and the part where Marjoe fights a giant chicken is priceless…
