Don’t let the title fool you into thinking you’re in for another Texas Chainsaw Massacre or 2000 Maniacs…This picture is much more akin to Russ Meyer’s hillbilly melodramas. The original title was Shantytown Honeymoon. It’s also been called Honey Britches. It was made in ’72 by Donn Davis…then in ’86, Fred Olen Ray acquired it, dusted it off, gave it a title Troma would like, and shot some new narrator scenes with John Carradine playing the Judge of Hell (shades of the fire and brimstone preacher in Lorna). Two jewel thieves (one with a pompous “British” accent) and their squeezes (one of whom is stacked…we’re talking double scoops.) lam out in the sticks, enjoying the hospitality of moonshine-swilling, scripture-spitting Harlan and his new, nubile (and stacked) bride Reba Sue. Almost immediately, the tension (sexual and otherwise) is thicker than the accents. Speaking of thick…the blood looks like marinara sauce. And there’s a lot of it in the third act. Y’all come back now, y’hear?
