What Fresco Hell Is This?

Stefano (Lino Capolicchio) is hired to restore a church fresco of St. Sebastian. He learns that the original painter, Legnani, dead for 20 years at this point, was a madman whose violent artwork was inspired by actual murders. Anonymous calls (in that giallo whisper) warn him to leave…but if anybody ever heeded that advice, it’d be a very short movie. The murders begin anew. Is Legnani back from the dead? Has he been alive the whole time? If not, whodunit? It’s very slow and mysterioso, reveling in suspense. The town is full of eccentrics that would’ve felt right at home in Twin Peaks…including a pretty young teacher with a fridge full of live snails. “My colors…My colors…”
