Nature Points Out The Folly Of Man


Ay! Where the hell’s Raymond Burr?! Seriously, folks…this is the one, the only, the original. If you grew up as I did in the days when Godzilla movies played constantly (the lighter, campy ones from the 60’s and 70’s, that is) you’ll probably find the original pretty jarring. Black and white. Dark. Deadly serious and highly emotional. (The original is, after all, a metaphor for the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and a protest against nuclear proliferation.) Inoshiro Honda used many of his films to express humanistic and environmental concerns, in grand science fiction tradition. You’ll find it hard after awhile to goof on the miniature sets and toy planes on wires, because you’ll be so engrossed in the story…and possibly moved. Gojira is one of the greatest science fiction pictures of the 50’s and of all time…
